Several of our holdings have recently declared special dividends, along with some Capital Gains distributions and distributions of NII (Net Investment Income).
While I track these on my google sheets on the dates tab, sometimes I have to “zero out” the dividend amount(s) in order for the amounts of these “special” distributions to calculate correctly.
This has driven down the annual income displayed on the google sheets, but that will recover once I restore the dividend amounts that had previously been “zeroed out”. This will happen next week after the most recent of these “specials” go ex-dividend on the 28th.
This is just like the unrealized gains shown on those sheets. Since I had “harvested” some of the gain by selling some holdings that had appreciated I turned unrealized gains into realized gains.
Sometimes, you need to just look behind the curtain!
